What is Ikigai?
Ikigai is a Japanese concept that refers to one's reason for being or purpose in life.
The term combines two words: "iki", meaning life, and "gai", meaning value or worth. It embodies the idea of finding fulfillment through the intersection of what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for.
The structure of ikigai is often represented visually with four overlapping circles, each representing one of the following elements:
- What You Love (Your Passion)
- What You Are Good At (Your Vocation)
- What The World Needs (Your Mission)
- What You Can Be Paid For (Your Profession)
Where these circles overlap lies your ikigai, symbolizing a balance where your personal satisfaction aligns with social and financial viability.
